Do you play music while you write?

There are writers who prefer writing without any music playing in the background. And then there are those who like a little background noise when writing.

As a blogger and owner of a site (Niabusiness.com) I fall in both categories. There are times when I like writing in a quiet place. It usually is the most ideal environment for me when writing articles.

But then there are times when I like some music playing in the background:

  • to drown other noises
  • when practicing other forms of writing like songwriting, I like to play instrumentals
  • when rewriting / editing pieces I have created before

The music could be from a playlist I have created - so a selection of songs of my own choosing. Or it could be random songs being played on the radio - or online on platforms like YouTube.

How about you? Do you use music this way as a writer? Do you use random music or make a playlist? Do you only listen to music when creating certain forms of literature - poetry vs. song lyrics vs. articles vs. short stories vs. tutorials vs. novels?

Do you use music more when creating fiction or non-fiction? Let me know.
